Notes
Will
New Hampshire. Probate Court (Hillsborough County); Probate Place: Hillsborough, New Hampshire, Probate Records, Vol 55-56, 1846-1849, pp 104-105, will of John ScottIn his will dated 26 November 1847, John Scott bequeaths to wife Bethia during her life "the entire use and control of the house I now live in" as well as all the buildings and land they stand on. She also receives use of and income from other parcels of real estate. To daughter Clarissa Scott, he leaves the use of one undivided half of the house and she will have full use of the house after the death of her mother. After the death of his wife, one undivided half of the house is bequeathed to granddaughter Mary Sophia Fuller as long as she pays to her brother Charles Fuller $200. Daughter Sally Scott receives $350 and daughter Harriet Gray $400. His grandchildren who are the children of his daughter Elizabeth Jewett who is deceased each receive $50: Elizabeth Hales, George Jewett, Charles Jewett, Sarah Jewett, John Jewett, Henry Jewett, and Mary Jewett. His grandchildren who are the children of his deceased son William Scott also receive $50 each: Albert S. Scott, Susan A. Scott, Will H. Scott, Sophia D. Scott, Charles Scott, Kendall Scott, Philenda Scott, Walter Scott, Mary S. Scott, and John Scott. He also bequeaths $30 to his niece Jane McCoy "as a token of my esteem." He specifies that these legacies are not to be paid until after the decease of his wife. John H. Steele and James Scott are named executors. (James Scott is the husband of daughter Sally Scott.) Daughter Nancy is not mentioned in the will although she was living at the time and there is plenty of other evidence that she is a daughter in this family.
