Obituary from Kelowna Capital News, 19 December, 2003: "KNERR, ELLERY. Local artist and cowboy poet Ellery Lindsey Knerr passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, Dec 14th 2003 at 92 years of age. Born in Lewistown, Montana on Feb 28th, 1911. He made his living as a Montana rancher and was involved in the arts community as a stage actor & playwright, becoming especially known for his saga-length cowboy poetry and western paintings. In 1972 he relocated his family to Canada to ranch in the Lumby area, then moved to Kelowna where he continued to paint until his death. One of his Western Paintings can be seen in the Jennifer Lopez/Robert Redford movie "An Unfinished Life". Ellery Knerr leaves behind his wife Alice, 3 sons and 3 daughters: Larry Knerr of Chetwynd; Jon (Elly) Knerr of Sechelt; Daniel Knerr of Winfield; Anne (Don) Meldrum of Kelowna; Judy (Dave) Walthers of Calgary, Katherine (Mark) Streit of Kelowna and 10 grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Fellowship Gospel Assembly in Winfield, Saturday Dec 20th at 2:00 pm."
