Birth
Elmer moved to Montana from Iowa when he was eight years old. He settled first in Denton. In 1906 he moved to Brooks, then in 1934 he moved to New Year Canyon. The old-time Knerr family raised Percheron horses for draft. In about 1940, Elmer Knerr traded Percheron stallions with E.C. Gremaux, who was the father of Bernard Gremaux (husband of Laverne "Bunny" Knerr). E.C. Gremaux also raised Percheron horses.Marriage
