James Torpey, Early Carpenter is Dead
James Torpey, early settler of Hudson, who lacked but a few days of being ninety years of age, died at the home of his son, Frank A. Torpey, 803 Third St., Monday, following an illness of about a week.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Francis P. Keicher, rector of St. Paul's, with burial in Willow River Cemetery.
Mr. Torpey was born in Canada, and came to Hudson some forty years ago. For many years he worked as a carpenter, and assisted in constructing many of Hudson's homes.
He leaves his wife, the son Frank A. Torpey, a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Brownlie, of Minneapolis and five grandchildren.

James Torpey was born October 23, 1837 at Williamsburgh, Canada. He came to America in 1861 and lived in the state of New York until 1878 when he settled in River Falls. He moved to Hudson in 1879 where he has since made his home.
Mr. Torpey was married to Miss Adelphine Claflin of Pottsdam, N.Y. in 1867. To this union was born two children, Mrs. S. H. Brownlee of Minneapolis, and Frank Torpey of this city.
He died Monday, October 10, at the home of his son, Frank, where he has made his home. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F. P. Keicher, officiating. He leaves to mourn his widow and two children.
