Mrs. Julius E. Miller, 72 years old and mother of Mrs. James Stayberg [Staberg], died at the home of her daughter at 1224 Second St., after an illness of several months. Mrs. Miller, whose home was near Austin, formerly lived here and frequently visited at the Stayberg [Staberg] home. After being released from a hospital on October 20, 1938, she came here to visit and recuperate. Her condition turned for the worse and she remained at her daughter's home until she died.
Mrs. Miller, whose maidin name was Marie E. Kunde, was born in Germany on July 27, 1866. She migrated to America in 1883 and in 1894 she was married to Julius E. Miller t Bellingham, Minn. After marriage they moved to North Dakota where they farmed for a few years. Next they farmed for several years in northern Minnesota. They quit farming and went into business in various cities. They lived in Hudson for four years, operating the grocery store at Pine and Second streets, now known as the Wales store. They next moved to St. Paul and then to Austin where they have been farming for the past five years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by the following children: Mrs. James Staberg, Hudson; Fred Miller, Detroit, Mich.; Henry Miller, Mrs. May Krake, Minneapolis; Pearl Miller, Austin; and Julius Miller, Lewis, Wis. One son died in December 1918.
The body lay in state at the O'Connell Funeral Home from Saturday until 1 p.m. Monday, when it was removed to the Stayberg [Staberg] home on Second street, where funeral services were held at 3 o'clock. Rev. F. H. Kretzschmar, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiated. Interment was in Willow River Cemetery.
