George B. Kinney Dies at Age 84
Geroge B. Kinney, 84 years old and a lifelong resident of St. Croix county, died Wednesday night, December 7, at his home here at 802 Second st. He had been in failing health for the past year.
Funeral services for Mr. Kinney were held at 9 o'clock last Saturday morning, December 10, at St. Patrick's Catholic church. A nephew, Rev. Ignatius Kinney of Barron, Wisconsin, officated assisted by Monsignor J. M. Owens. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery here. The pallbearers were Gregory Kinney, Richard Kinney, Robert Kinney, Jr., Andy Kinney, Ignatius Kinney and Mark Reader. Beckwith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
George Benedict Kinney was born on Jan. 29, 1865, near Martell, Wisconsin. He was the grandson of Andrew Kinney of Dane county, a Wisconsin territorial settler of 1847. When a young boy, he moved with his parents to a farm in the German Settlement, east of Hudson. After attending rural schools and St. John's Academy at Collegeville, Minnesota, he took over the operations of the family farm in 1892, where he lived until his marriage to Mary Anne Sammon on June 30, 1897. He then moved to his own farm nearby where he lived until he retired in 1937, when he moved to his home at 802 Second street in Hudson. His wife died there on October 17, 1946.
He was a membr of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by three sons, Philip A. Kinney, postmaster at Mason, Wis., Mark A. Kinney of Hammond, George Emmett Kinney of Hudson; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Carlson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Ingmar Dahl of Hudson; and nine grandchildren.
