(30 Mar 1884 - 8 Oct 1933)
HSO, 12Oct1933, p1
A feeling of sadness spread over the community on Monday when it learned that Mrs. James R. Fitzgerald, forty-nine years old, had passed away late Sunday evening. Death came as a relief to her patient suffering of the past months, and although she had feen failing gradually, the news came as a shock to her hosts of friends. Taken ill last April, she underwent an operation at the St. Joseph Hospital on April 6 and upon her return home, she was able to be up at times and enjoy the visits of her friends. However she did not gain strength and gradually grew weaker until death came at 11:45 o'clock Sunday evening.
Mrs. Katherine Donnelly Fitzgerald was born on March 30, 1884 at Elroy, Wisconsin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Donnelly who still reside in that city. She grw to womanhood and spent three years as a teacher previous to her marriage to James P. Fitzgerald on May 20, 1908 at Elroy. They resided in St. Paul, following their marriage, until 1923 when Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald and family came to make their home in this city.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was a faithful member in the St. Patrick's church and at the time she was taken ill, held an office in the Catholic Ladies Guild. She was also a member and officer in the Women's Relief Corps in which she took an active interest.
She has left to mourn her death, her husband and two daughters, Eileen and Marguerite, who are both at home. She is also survived by her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Donnelly of Elroy, who, due to infirmities of age, were unable to come to Hudson for the last rites. One brother and three sisters, P. J. Donnelly of Elroy, Mrs. R. C. Hungeford and Mrs. Mary Desmond of Sioux City, Iowa and Sister Mary Denise of Madison, also survive.
Funeral services from St. Patrick's Church on October 11. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.
