Online News, 3 Apr 2010
Robert "Bob" DeWitte, age 81, of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 1, 2010.
He was born the son of John and Dorothy (Frederick) DeWitte on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1928, in Hudson. Bob was a 1946 graduate of Hudson High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country from 1946-1948. Bob then went on to earn his bachelor of science degree from University of Wisconsin - River Falls. He began his career as a chemist and retired as a quality control engineer/manager in 1988 after working for Whirlpool for 36 years.
On August 18, 1951, Bob was united in marriage to Donna Mae Peterson. He would remain devoted to her for 57 years, and was constantly at her side during the last six months of her life. Donna preceded him in death in October 2008. Together they raised four children: Diane, Nancy, James and Mary.
Bob was passionate about his family. When his children were growing up, he planned camping trips and took them boating and waterskiing. When he became a grandfather, he shared his love of hunting, fishing, and chemistry, and was always their biggest fan during their sporting events. Bob was very involved at Trinity Lutheran Church, having been both a past executive director and an acolyte. He was proud that he, his father, and brother built the house that he raised his family and spent his life in. A jack of all trades, Bob also enjoyed working on cars, gardening, and baking. His friendly, gregarious presence will be missed at the local grocery store, where he went every day, and by all who knew and loved him.
Bob will remain in the hearts of his children, Diane DeWitte of Arlington, Wis., Nancy (Bill) Pharo of Middleton, Wis., James R. DeWitte of Hudson, Mary Gwen (Dennis) Marquardt of Owatonna, Minn.; grandchildren, Clint Pharo, Andy Pharo, and Elizabeth Marquardt; sister-in-law, Annette DeWitte of Hudson; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Kenneth DeWitte; and siblings-in-law, Gwen and Bill Heffron.
A funeral service for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at church and from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, 715-386-3725. Memorials are preferred.
