Kenneth Richard DeWitte, 76, a lifelong resident of Hudson died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 24, at Hudson Hospital after he collapsed at his home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Hudson, the son of John W. and Dorothy Sophia (Fredrick) DeWitte, and attended Hudson schools, graduting from Hudson High School in 1949.
He served his country as a sergent in the United Sttes Marine Corps, entering Aug. 20, 1951, and discharged Aug. 19, 1953, after duty in Korea.
On Aug. 29, 1953, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson, he was married to Annette Marie Staberg.
For more than 30 yers he was employed by the Consolidated Lumber Company, which later became the Arrow Building Center in Hudson.
When not at work, he could be found in his garage fixing and repairing a variety of things. For a time, he owned and operated Ken's Fix-It Service and made repairs for customers in the Hudson area.
He enjoyed reading Western novels, viewing John Wayne movies and fishing with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors are his wife, Annette, of Hudson; two daughters, Dr. Joan (Michael) Schumacher of Eau Claire and Carol (Vern) Haas of Woodville; a son, Richard S. (Dawn) DeWitte of Cassville; five grandchildren, Kristen Schumacher, Bryan Schumacher, Lindsey DeWitte, Christopher DeWitte and Ethan DeWitte; a brother, Robert J. (Donna) DeWitte of Hudson; two brothers-in-law, James (Ruth) Staberg and Fred Staberg, both of Hudson; and friends Thomas and Mary Redner of Hudson.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Dorothy DeWitte.
The memorial service was at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson, with Pastor Time Booth officiating.
A private family burial with military honors was in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson.
