August Carlson and Mathilda Carlson were among the first members of the First Lutheran Church of Harris which was organized January 30, 1891.

Funeral Rites Held At Harris for August Carlson
Funeral services were conducted on Wedneday, October 23rd, for August Carlson, a long time resident of the Harris community who passed away on Sunday, October 20th, after a lingering illness at the age of 76 years and 4 months. The services were conducted at the family home at two o'clock with Rev. A. Wm. Nordin officiating. Singing was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson and Mrs. A. Wm. Nordin. Interment was in Oak Grove cementery.
Nels August Carlson was born on June 20, 1864 in Vennersnas socken, Vestergotland, Sweden, and came to America at the age of eighteen. He settled on a farm near Harrris forty-eight years ago and had lived there ever since.
He was a charter member of the Harris Lutheran church. Mr. and Mrs. Carlson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in June 1938.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Tilda Carlson, two daughters, Mrs. Esther Hollander of St. Cloud and Mrs. Minnie Hawkinson of Jordan, Montana; one son, Arthur Carlson of St. Paul, nine grandchildren and a sister
in Sweden. Three children preceeded him in death.
