Charles Lucian Houghton
(18 Mar 1941 - 29 Apr 2009)
BIRTH-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN:FGS Charle Houghton; 1941-1995; ; FGS completed by
Charles Houghton, San Diego CA, 1995; ; In possession of Art Hawkinson;.
I was born at the Misericordia Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I started school
at the Lee School in Milwaukee.
In 1951 my father died and when my mother died in 1954, I went to live with my
uncle Jim Houghton and his family in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1956 they moved
to La Mesa, California where I met my future wife, Marilyn, who lived just
across the street.
While in high school I was president of the Radio Club and active in stage
crew. When I was seventeen, I joined the Army National Guard and after high
school went to boot camp at Fort Ord in California and Fort Leonard Wood in
Missouri. I was assigned to a combat Eng Bn as a demolitions man. Later became
communications Sgt for armored vehicles. After active duty I worked part time
in a TV repair shop. Then, from 1960-61, I worked at Straza Industries making
Atlas Missle parts in El Cajon, CA.
In April of 1961 Marilyn and I were married.
Eventually I was laid off from Straza Industries and the day after our first
son, Charles, was born, I began working for the Pacific Telephone Company where
I have been ever since. In May of 1963 we bought our first home and in July
1964 Richard was born. During the summer of 1966 our family drove across
country visiting relatives in Minnesota and Connecticut. In April of 1968
Julie was born and in May of that year we moved to a larger home. Then in July
1972 our family made another cross country trip doing a lot of sight seeing and
visiting.
I enjoy working with radios and have a garage full of equipment. I
also have built myself a darkroom to develop pictures. Another thing enjoyed
is my telescope. Last year I invested in some back packing gear and have done
some campouts with Chucky in Scouts. Will be doing more when Ricky gets into
Boy Scouts. We also do some leisurely camping with the family.
(Charlie Houghton, 1974).
(1995) Chuck has been working for Pacific Bell Phone Company for 33 years,
currently as a technician working with closed circuit radio and TV programming.
His amateur radio hobby has exploded into a small business and also some
technical writings for a monthly magazine called "73".
