(Eleen, 1995)
Our parents moved into Joran from Butte Creek (Carl and Lucille) and Blackfoot
(Ebert and Grace) in the dirty 30's. Ebert and Carl took over the Jordan-Miles
City Stage Route, carried mail and freight.
We grew up in Jordan and attended school there. J.E., Leila and I graduated
from G.C.H.S. and Carl and Lucille moved to Rosebud so Harold and Elmer
graduated from Rosebud High.
My mom's parents, Fred and Nellie Kinney, were always near and J.E.'s
grandparents, T.K. and Margaret, lived on a ranch at Brusett. Aunt Minnie
and Uncle Alfred and Uncle Clifford and Aunt Edna lived in Jordan.
We will have lived on our farm in Blackfoot "50 years" April 2, 1996; we were
married April 2, 1946. We have lived in Miles City for a year at 1013 South
Lake, and go to the farm for a rest and relaxation-- a break from city living.
Jordan has always been "Our Town" and have good friends and neighbors. Ronnie,
Peggy and their five live close by at a farm on Blackfoot, so we have enjoyed
our grandchildren, and now our great grandson.
The highlight in Jordan was when the dam went out. The nearest to the Fort
Peck we ever saw. We got to play and see water. Threw sticks and floated logs
and rode inner tubes.
There has been a lot of changes since we moved to Blackfoot-- electricity came
in, telephone, somewhat better roads to drive on, TV in every home, and more
than one vehicle to drive per family. (We rode in a pickup with our two kids.)
And I remember when we were on Butte Creek, my family rode in a truck if and
when we got away which was rare. When I first went to Blackfoot I rode a
bicycle to visit my neighbor as J.E. had our pickup to work.
We had a good life and kept busy and out of trouble.
