Amous Kingsley is first found in the 1861 census in Simcoe county, Essa township, in Ontario with his wife, Biddy, and children, Charlotte, James, William and Franklin. Also living in the household is Betsy Elliott, born Ireland, age 52. She is a widow. They live in a one story log home. He has approximately 50 acres of land, with seven acres in crops (three acres in wheat, one acre in oats, one and a half acres in potatoes, and one half acre in turnips) and 43 acres wooded. Amos is 37 yeas old. (1)
In 1871 he is still in Simcoe county with wife, Bridget, and children, Charlotte, James, William, Franklin, Robertson, Henrietta, Mary E. and Johanna M. He states he is 49 years old, born in the United States and of French orgin. He is a farmer.
The family is in Simcoe county when the youngest son, Alfred, is born in 1874. In the 1910 Federal census Mary Elizabeth (Kinglsey) Broughton states she came to the U.S. in 1876. If this is true, she would have been about age 8. We've found no further mention of Amos.

"Amos Davenport Kingsley (1796-1867) married (1) ca 1820, Susan Moore, and had three children (two died young): (1) a son b. 1821, (2) Amos b. 5 Feb 1823, (3) a daughter b. 1825; married (2) 25 Jun 1825, Sophia Lee, and had nine
additional children, one a son, Franklin, and one a daughter, Susan Elizabeth.
Although son Amos was living with the family in both the 1830 and 1840 censuses, he was not recorded among his children in 1850; beyond this point Mr. Kingsley has not found any history of Amos, born 5 Feb 1823. He concludes
that from the available information it would be very difficult to prove "our" Amos is the Amos Kingsley born 5 Feb 1823.
