EXPENSIVE PRACTICAL JOKING
Stepson of Dierks Held up in Fun by Neighbor, Who is Tracked by Sheriff to his Home
Thursday of last week a story was current that young Sargent, a step-son of Charles Dierks, the well known farmer living north of this city, had been held up by a road agent in the "Nigger Coolie," but that the timely arrival of a wagon frustrated the robber's plans, causing him to slink away into the bushes.
Young Sargent was on his way to Hudson early in the morning, and it was dark in the coolie. The holdup man looked large and terrible to the boy, who
naturally, turned pale with fear when he heard the command to "stand and
deliver."
When Sheriff Johnson was notified, he hastened to the coolie, where he
found the footprints of the holdup man in the snow, and tracked him across the country to a farm house, where he found the guilty party, who confessed. He said it was a practical joke on young Sargent.
