Death of Mrs. Sigrid Floren
Mrs. Sigrid Floren passed away at her home in this village Sunday afternoon, May 20, 1917. The cause of her death was a stroke of apoplexy. Although she did not suffer anything her death was sad. When stricken, she was bending over the cookstove preparing something to eat, and fell forward in such a way that her face rested on the stove. Mrs. C. C. Reitan, whose home is just across the street, went over to visit her in the afternoon, and found her on the stove. She immediately took her off but by this time her face had been badly burnt.
Deceased was born in Norway, March 11, 1842, and was seventy-five years, two months and nine days of age. She came to this country about 41 years ago, locating in Douglas county, where she remained about a year, when she came to this county which has since been her home. She was married in 1874 to A. J. Floren, who was the pioneer shoe dealer in this village. Her husband died a few years ago. One son, Halvor, is also dead. Two children, J. A. Floren and Mrs. R. A. Carlson, are left to mourn the death of their mother. Four grandchildren also survive.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with services at the home and at the Norwegian Lutheran Church, of which she was a devoted member. The services were conducted by Rev. E. R. Weeks, assisted by Rev. C. J. Quill of Minneapolis, who was formerly pastor of the church. A short service was held at the cemetery, where by the side of a devoted husband she now rests in peace. The sorrowing children and grandchildren have the sympathy of all.
