JAMES WHEELER (1656-1684)
James Wheeler was born 16 December 1656, in Charles County, Maryland, the son of John and Mary ( ) Wheeler.
A cattle mark was registered in his name when he was only three years of age. He witnessed a deed in 1671 when he was only seventeen years of age.
He married, first, Elizabeth Corker, widow of Thomas Corker and daughter of Clement Theobold.
He married, second, Catherine , who after the demise of Thomas married second, Moses Jones. She passed away shortly thereafter, and Moses Jones then married Elizabeth Jenkins.
He did Jury service in january of 1679, and then in March of that same year sued Thomas Hussey for a debt of 400 pounds of tobacco. In August and November of 1680 he was on jury duty, and in December 1680 he sued Thomas Hussey for execution on the earlier judgement.
In August of 1681, he was a member of the Charles County, Militia, and he and Captain Randolph Brandt were the two Roman Catholics against whom a plot was made to get them out of the troop.
In April of 1681, John Hussey made a counter-suit against James Wheeler for 3000 pounds of tobacco in chancery court.
Walter Ball quotes a Semmes manuscript as stating that James died in december of 1684. That date is undoubtedly correct, as a statement of his account was filed by Moses Jones, and Catherine, his wife on 16 May 1686. (Accts. AE, No. 6, p. 9). An additional inventory was filed 24 November 1687 by John Clark and John Goodshall (Book 10, folio 1). Yet another inventory was filed 11 November 1692 by Moses Jones, "in right of Catherine, his wife who is deceased and was in her lifetime executor of the last will and testament of James Wheeler. COURT OF 8 Mar 1691
Order against Moses Jones who m. Catherine, relict and extx. of James Wheeler, dec'd
JAMES WHEELER (John1) was born 16 December 1656 and died in December 1684. He married Katherine, who, following his death, married Moses Jones. Children of James and Katherine Wheeler:
9 John Wheeler (mentioned in grandfather's will as son of James) married Dorothy. Lived in Pamunkey, Charles County, Maryland, in 1700.
10 James Wheeler.
11 Ann Wheeler.
JAMES WHEELER (1656-1684)
James Wheeler was born 16 December 1656, in Charles County, Maryland, the son of John and Mary Wheeler. A cattle mark was registered in his name when he was only three years of age. He witnessed a deed in 1671 when he was only seventeen years of age. He married, first, Elizabeth Corker, widow of Thomas Corker and daughter of Clement Theobold. He married, second, Catherine, who after the demise of James married second, Moses Jones. She passed away shortly thereafter, and Moses Jones then married Elizabeth Jenkins.
James did Jury service in January of 1679, and then in March of that same year sued Thomas Hussey for a debt of 400 pounds of tobacco. In August and November of 1680 he was on jury duty, and in December 1680 he sued Thomas Hussey for execution on the earlier judgement. In August of 1681, he was a member of the Charles County, Militia. He and Captain Randolph Brandt were the two Roman Catholics against whom a plot was made to get them out of the troop. Yet another inventory was filed 11 November 1692 by Moses Jones, "in right of Catherine, his wife who is deceased and was in her lifetime executor of the last will and testament of James Wheeler." (Book 10, Folio 364).
