Death
AIKEN – Daniel Ray Furr, 66, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Born in Leesburg, Virginia, he was the son of Forrest Daniel Furr and the late Dorothy Ellen Keyes Furr. Danny was in the horse racing industry for the past 35 years. Memorials may be made to The Thoroughbred Retirement Fund, 10 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Surviving are his wife, Vicky Furr; sons, Zack Furr, Tanner Furr; his father and brother, Michael Furr. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington, SC is assisting the family with arrangements.Trainer Danny Furr died Aug. 31 at his home in Aiken, S.C., after a long battle with cancer. He was 66. Furr trained and raced horses at Delaware Park and Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. He started as a hot walker in 1974 atBelmont Park and later served as assistant trainer for Hall of Fame trainers Frank Whitley Jr. and Mac Miller. During his time in New York, Furr had the privilege of being around top horses such as Ruffian, Forego, Java Gold, Fit to Fight, and Sea Hero. He is survived by his wife, Vicky, and his sons, Zack and Tanner.
