Death

Bobby G. Barker, 86, of Veedersburg passed away at his residence, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022. Bobby was born July 24, 1936, at Cates, the son of Glen and Effie Mae (Simpkin) Barker. He married Betty Lou Furr on Oct. 21, 1955. She preceded him in death Aug. 25, 2017. He is also preceded in death by twin sisters, Velma Graves and Thelma Wells; and two brothers, Austin Barker and Harold Lee Barker. Surviving family include: daughter Katrina (Tom) Bowling, Crawfordsville; son Randy (Beth Cates) Barker, Veedersburg; three grandchildren, Chera (Mark) Carr, Marlana Spencer and Darin (Ashley) Bowling; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. As a young man Bobby had been employed at Grab-it-Here, with Woolen Holycroft as a carpenter, and Fountain Foundry; all in Veedersburg; He was then employed at Harrison Steel in Attica before going on to C&D Battery where he was employed for 36 years prior to his retirement in 1991. He served as Union President Local #950 for seven years; president of Veedersburg Town Council for four years; Redevelopment Association, and had managed the Veedersburg Scout Cabin for several years. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday and continue until the time of service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Rockfield Cemetery.
