Death
Monoka N. Collins, 95, of Franklin Twp., Pennsylvania passed away Monday, June 19, 2023. She was born April 1, 1928 in Letter Gap, West Virginia to the late Henry D. and Ona (Furr) Nicholson. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, James S. Collins, and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jeff Collins and Pat Gehander of Bernardsville, NJ; two daughters and son-in-law Marsha and Clyde Bailes of Maidsville, WV and Jane Passantino of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She additionally leaves behind a close network of neighbors and friends in her winter home of Port Charlotte, Florida, who were a great support for her. Monoka graduated from Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia and taught school for several years before assuming the role of home maker for her family. She loved the outdoors and could often be found enjoying a neighborhood walk, admiring a flower garden or simply sitting on the porch swing. With an interest in sports, she became an avid fan of West Virginia University football and basketball and Yankee baseball and tried to never miss a televised game. In later years, she enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw and crossword puzzles that continually occupied her dining table. She did, indeed, lead a fantastic life and will be missed. A private graveside service will be held Saturday, August 5 at Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church.Endnotes
