Death
SHELBYVILLE - George Howard Furr 85 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away Monday Oct. 9, 2006 in Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen. Mr. Furr was born June 24, 1921 in Shelby County, IL the son of John and Amanda Wilson Furr. He married Rosemary Cross Nov. 22, 1941 and she passed away Mar. 9, 1973. He later married Julia Stockdale on Oct. 5, 1974 and she passed away July 12, 2002. George was a man who always exhibited a positive attitude toward life. He loved people and never knew a stranger. He was an active man with many interests who loved to try new things. He was a sportsman and outdoorsman who loved hunting, boating, archery, racquetball and horses. He especially loved to travel and did so extensively. As a member of the Shelbyville Class of 1939 he met and later married his sweetheart, and later wife, Rosemary. He farmed for much of his life, was a master electrician, retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur, IL after 26 years and once owned and operated a service station with his brother-in-law in Antigo, WI. George served in the United States Army Corp. of Engineers and was a member of the American Legion and the Caterpillar Retirees Club. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville and the Masonic Lodge of Harlingen, TX. His memory will be carried on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren knowing that there will always be a tomorrow. Surviving are his daughter Donna Hines and husband Jack of Richmond, VA; son Richard Dennis Furr of Champaign, IL; step-children: Terry Stein of Pocohontas, IL, Diane Hendricks and husband Charlie of Decatur, IL, Beverly Schwarm and husband Russell of Loogootee, IL and Larry Stein and wife Veronica of Easley SC; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; sister Mareta Owens and husband Ralph of Shelbyville; brother Clark Furr and wife Shirley of Shelbyville; special friend Florence (Shirley) Nixon of Harlingen. He was preceded in death by wives Rosemary and Julia, parents, son John Edward Furr and brother John Furr Jr. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday October 14, 2006 in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Bob Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Masonic Rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials: Donor's choice.
