Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Laurie Bawcom will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Joe Nichols officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
Mary Laurie Bawcom was born October 14, 1918 at Hamburg, Arkansas to the late Ben Nelms and Cora Higginbottom Nelms. She passed away, surrounded by her family, on February 18, 2015 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, Louisiana. Mrs. Bawcom was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, a devoted homemaker, and operator along with her husband, Parker, of Bawcom's Grocery in Bastrop.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Parker Will Bawcom; an infant granddaughter, Laura Leigh Wilson; a grandson, Cory Scott Hayman; and three siblings.
Mrs. Bawcom is survived by her three daughters, Avanell Linzay and her husband, David of Monroe, Louisiana, Betty Wilson and her husband, Larry of Bastrop, Louisiana, Linday Hayman and her husband, William of Bastrop, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Pam Traweek and her husband Rodney, Melissa Williams and her husband, Ray, Cristy Goss and her husband, Nelson, Betsy Culp and her husband, Chad, and Neil Hayman and his wife Kristal. She is also survived by two sisters, Christine Ingle and Doris Selby and her husband, R.D.; a brother, Clarence Nelms and his wife, Ednadean; sister-in-law, Mrs. Billy Nelms; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
