Mrs. Doris Stell Smith, 92, of Hamburg, who was born January 31, 1912 in Ashley County, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at the Beverly Healthcare in Crossett. She was a lifelong resident of Hamburg and Ashley County, a homemaker, an active member of the First Baptist Church for many years, serving in many capacities, and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Hagood of Strong; two sons, Larry Smith of Hamburg and Charles Herman Smith of Lake Village; one brother, Billy Stell; and one sister, Mildred Tucker, both of Hamburg; six grandchildren, Cathy Gray of El Paso, Texas, Theresa Chambliss of Pine Bluff, Noland Hagood of Arkadelphia, Charles H. Smith, Jr. of Beaumont, Texas, Larry W. Smith, Jr. of Bryant, and Kevin Smith of Lake Village; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman F. Smith, in 1988; one brother, Edward Stell; and three sisters, Katie Chadwick, Velma Sullivan and Nadine Kelley.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, May 21, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Wayne Smith, Noland Hagood Jr., Kevin Smith, Charles H. Smith Jr., Billy Bozeman and Steven Kelley. Burial followed services at the Promise Land Cemetery.
