Melba Ann Spray

(7 Jun 1949 - 1 Oct 2009)

Sprinkle kindness like confetti... Flirt with that thought a minute and if you knew her, you'll think of Melba Ann Rosser (you probably knew her as "Melba") who entered eternal life on Thursday, October 1, 2009. Beautiful, magnanimous, and kind, she had a mega-watt smile that could be seen from a thousand paces. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Melba during her short 60 years with us, among them: Go back to school, no matter how old you are. You can never be too educated!; Read books, lots and lots of books; Talk to your plants; bake a cake for those you love on their birthday and celebrate the whole week; be kind to strangers and animals; smile at everyone you meet, it might be the only one they get all day; don't judge others, you have no idea what they're facing in life; take time to sit in front a fireplace and feel it's warmth; drive out to the countryside to gaze at the stars; catch fireflies in jars, but always let them go before you go to bed; look for the bluebirds, you never know—they may just be angels watching over you; love fiercely and never give up on those you love no matter how hard that can be; remember that family is everything; paint your house pink if it makes you happy; celebrate every holiday to it's fullest—even the small ones; always build a snowman when you've got a great snow day; and maybe most simply, you can make your home or yourself sparkle with something as small as a smile and a fresh coat of paint.
Melba lived life to the fullest. She was born on June 7th, 1949 to Rosa Aurora Smith and Agle Lee "Jack Spray". She grew up on a cotton farm in White Flat, Texas with her parents and beloved sister Geney and adored her older three brothers Norman, Sleepy, and Bill. She graduated Matador High in 1967 and married young, moving to the Dallas area where she gave birth to her beloved twin children (Tony and Leesa). When they were still small, she married a second time, but this time to the love of her life, Roy Rosser, who became her children's father and her loving and adoring life partner. She also became a loving stepmother to Roy's children (Stephanie and Michael). She worked full time while raising her children, but she never let that stop her from going back to school and eventually graduating from the University of Texas-Dallas. She set the finest example of character and hard work, never failing to encourage her children to always try hard to be the best they could be. She also cherished her grandchildren; Whitley, Cody, Zain, Evan, and J.D. Her smile, laughter, and zest for life were contagious. Melba never met a stranger and was a friend to all lucky those enough to cross her path. She shared lots of funny and sweet quotes or songs with life's little lessons. Those of us who've taken her lessons to heart will smile at strangers, help those in need and cherish the little moments in every single day, knowing that we carry on the legacy of kindness, beauty, and grace that was Melba.
She will be forever missed by her children and grandchildren whose accomplishments she was so proud of, her adored siblings, Geney Stan, Norman Spray, and Billy Jack & Sylvia Spray, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Melba is reunited with her mom and dad and beloved brother Sleepy who also left us too soon. Friends (and strangers she would love to have met) can visit with Melba's family at Dalton & Son Funeral Home in Lewisville, TX at 1550 N Stemmons Freeway from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 11:00 am both at Dalton & Son Funeral Home in Lewisville, and graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 2:00 pm in White Flat, TX, her final resting place among her family and ancestors.
