On 25 Feb 1917 he was shipped off to the 57th Battalion in France. On the 26 Mar 1917 he was wounded & treated in the 2nd Gen Hops, Rouen, France before rejoining his unit 11 Apr 1917. He was killed in action 12 May 1917
