Individual Details
Louis Peter Pappas
(1882 - 12 May 1944)
Louis was 63 when he died from cirrhosis of the liver.
Occupation: He was the proprietor of a restaurant. The first restaurant was on Court Street in Hoboken, which was the main street of Hoboken. He and his partner had to sell the restaurant because a movie theater with live stage shows was being constructed. Then he bought a restaurant on First Street. Shortly afterwards, the Depression hit; his wife, Angelina, worked in the restaurant as the cook and Catherine took care of the family.
Marriage: Information came from Greek marriage certificate, in possession of Carol Kostakos Petranek.
The 1920 census shows Louis and Angelina living at 91 Court Street, with the Botsolas family. Two of the Botsolas boys were not listed: Tom and Gus were probably born after 1920. The first child, Carton, is actually Catherine; the second child, Mary, is actually Bertha.
Conflicting Data:
According to Angelina's naturalization papers, he entered US on Nov 1,1901 in New York, and it gives his birth date 20 July 1877.
Bertha Pappas Pouletsos says he was born 1878; and entered US in 1896?
Never became US Citizen or purchased any property in the US because he entered the country under an alias to avoid the draft and was afraid he would be deported. According to Bertha, his alias name was KOSTA KOLOCOTA. He was 15 when he left Greece.

Civil marriage certificate gives age as 32 in 1914.Alternate Birth
Birth year of 1844 - from 1901 Passenger ship manifest for Constantinos Colokatas gives age as 17; family believes this was the manifest for Louis, who immigrated under the Colokotas name.Immigration
Immigration year of 1901 given by Louis' wife, Angelina, on her petition for naturalization.NOTE: I believe this is the immigration record of my grandfather, Louis Pappas (Ilias Papagiannakos) based on the following: (1) his daughters, Bertha and Catherine, said that he left Greece because he did not want to be drafted, and he was 15 years old, and he came under the name Kosta Kolocotta; (2) In the Petition for Naturalization of his wife, Angelina Eftaxias Pappas (Papagiannakos), she stated that her husband arrived in 1901. The age on the following passenger list states age 17. Louis has 3 different birth dates and years: if we subtract 15 from 1901, his birth year would be 1886, which is slightly off the birth year of 1887 which he gave in his World War II Draft Registration. If we subtract 17 from 1901, his birth year would be 1884.

Immigration
We have never found a passenger ship manifest for Louis. His daughter, Catherine Pappas Kostakos, said he came into the country using the alias of Kolocotta; another story is that he "jumped ship."Marriage
