Individual Details
Nicholas Petron
(7 Feb 1917 - 9 Jun 1973)
Original name was Triantafilos.
Italian wife. Lived in Bogota, New Jersey. By Ft. Lee, NJ. She was not close to the family.
He had children.
Discussion with Carol Petranek, Bertha Pouletsos & Catherine Kostakos, Aug. 2, 2003:
1) Bertha : he was in the Marines, and took Bertha to a Marines dance. She remembered looking over the balcony of the ballroom and thinking to herself, "how handsome all these Marines are in their uniforms"
2) Bertha, her husband, Nick, and Yiayia Angelina Pappas went to visit him in New Jersey when Yiayia was living with Uncle Bill in Westwood. Nick's wife wouldn't let them in - she said he's not here anymore, he died. They were shocked because no one had contacted them about this.
3) At one point his wife asked Yiayia Angelina for a copy of her birth certificate, which she did not have.
4) The family bought property in Massapequa, Long Island with the Theodosis family (Kanela's family) before the island became built up.
DEATH: Social Security Death Record: Nicholis Petron, SS# 116-01-8738; born 6 Feb 1917; died 9 June 1973. SS# issued in New York before 1951.
Family story, how the family name was changed to "Petron", as told to Nick Jr. by his father, Nick.: When it was time for Nick to be registered for school, his father, Petros, took him. When asked what his name was, Petros said "Petro", and that was written as the last name. With the letter "N" at the beginning of Nick's name, his school records had him listed as "Petron." It was not until after Nick was discharged from the army that the entire family changed their name to Petron. (Conversation, Nick Jr to Carol Petranek, February 2010.)
