Obituary for Vasilike "Yiayia" Drake
Vasilike Drake (Drakoulias), better known as “Yiayia”, age 100 (and two weeks!) of Upper Arlington, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 surrounded by her adoring family. She was born in Mystras, Greece, daughter of the late George and Eleni (Vergakis) Kakaletris. Preceded in death by her husband Athanasios, her infant son George, and seven siblings. Vasilike immigrated to Hot Springs, Arkansas where she worked at Pappas Brothers’ Restaurant. She enjoyed cooking, knitting slippers, gardening, and was known for making the best bread. She loved spending time outside with the flowers, birds, and talking to the butterflies. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Georgia “Gia” (George) Bavelis and Viki Presock; grandchildren Tina (Tasos) Bavelis Manokas, Niki (Dan) Bavelis Callanan, Stella (Matt) Bavelis Studer, and Tom (Pat) Presock; great grandchildren; Sarah and Madeline Studer, Andrew, Kristina, and Gia Noel Manokas, and Sophia, Danny, Alexia Callanan, George Bavelis Callanan, and Anastasios Bavelis Callanan; siblings, Poli Flengeris, Chris Kakaletris, and Andrew Kakaletris; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:30-8:00 P.M. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where a Trisagion service will begin at 7:30 P.M. The Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High St followed by interment at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, or to UNICEF Ukraine and please designate children in Ukraine.
