Born at Angmering, Sussex, c 1773, and trading at Petworth by 1819 and possibly 1815. Apart from the cabinet making side of his business he was landlord of the 'White Hart Inn' in Back St (1841 Census)"
Census	1841	as the owner of the White Hart Inn in Petworth, having become the operator and then owner of the White Hart in North Street about 1819. At first his younger brother Joseph is listed as the owner and George as the occupier. In 1820 George is listed as the occupier and Joseph as occupying part of the inn. Joseph is said to have been removed as licensee because of irregularities. This arrangement continued at least till 1832 when the tax rolls end. The Sussex Advertiser 22 Feb 1841 records that George had transferred his license to his son-in-law James Milton. George in 1854 willed the White Hart Inn and associated property to his three surviving daughters
