Anne "Annie" BARKER

(Abt 1835 - )

Events

BirthAbt 1835(or maybe 1836). Annie disappeared from the family & was believed to be alive when her father died in 1880 but when her mother's will was being executed in 1892 the solicitor placed ads in a national paper trying to trace her. It said they thought she had married & was in Victoria - Dromore, County Monaghan, Ireland
Immigration (fam)-shared7 Nov 1840(John BARKER and Margaret HANNA) with their children Elizabeth (8) & Anne (6) on the "Argyle"on 7 Nov 1840. The voyage must have been a nightmare! In all at least 196 out of 310 immigrants were stricken with serious disease during the voyage. By the time they reached Cape Town 20 adults & children had died of typhoid, dysentery, measles & whooping cough. By the time they reached Port Phillip on 12 Apr 1841 another 25 had died. More than half the 70 children who boarded the vessel in Liverpool died on the voyage. To make matters worse Margaret was pregnant & gave birth to daughter Jane on 25 Feb whilst still at sea. Many migrants disembarked in Melbourne but some, like the Barkers, sailed on to Sydney on the ship when it left on 10 May 1841 & passengers were cleared 21 May in Port Jackson - Liverpool, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom
Note1855Annie disappeared from the family & was believed to be alive when her father died in 1880 but when her mother's will was being executed in 1892 the solicitor placed ads in a national paper trying to trace her. It said they thought she had married & was in Victoria. Closest Annie ? in age that I have found is one who married Allen Hughes in Vic Aug 1882 & died in 1911 in Vic (born about 1834). The marriage mention says she is from Sandhurst
Note1866We know that she didn't marry Andrew Templeton in 1866 (#2304) in Victoria as we have the Marriage Record
