News Pub (ind) | 29 Oct 1880 | "DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. - On Sunday last, the remains of an old &and respected resident of this district were conveyed to their last resting place. We allude to the funeral of the late Mr. John Barker, of Mount Pleasant. The deceased had been a resident of the place mentioned for a period of between thirty and forty years, and had the good will of all who knew him, he having been a good neighbour and a kind hearted and well conducted member of the community. He enjoyed good health until within a few weeks of his death, which occurred on saturday last, at an advanced age. The funeral took place on the following afternoon, as already stated, and was very largely attended. The remains were deposited in the Church of England Cemetery, the Rev. Dean Ewing officiating. A widow and several sons and daughters, all very respectable, survive the deceased and mourn their loss by his death." | | | |
