Military22 Nov 1915, enlisting in the AIF on 22 Nov 1915. As he had the position of Inspector in the Telegraph Construction branch of the Post Master Generals Dept he was immediately appointed as a Lieutenant & posted to the 4th Division Signals. He was awarded the Military Cross 4 Oct 1816 for "conspicuous gallantry during operations" & was promoted to Captain 15 Apr 1917. He also received a Bar to the MC on 1 Nov 1917 & was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's despatch of 7 Nov 1917 for "distinguished & gallant service". He was killed on 22 Jul 1918 when his horse fell whilst riding in a Divisional Race Meeting & he fractured his skull in the accident
