Note1899He fought in the Boer War in South Africa with a contingent known as the NSW IMPERIAL BUSHMEN. Service number: 629, Rank: Private. He was severely wounded, Reneke 29/11/1900. According to an obituary in the Goulburn Penny Post 10 Dec 1937 the doctors determined that they would have to amputate his leg but he threatened revenge if they did so. So they probed deeper into the woulnd to find that a piece of sock had been carried into the wound by the bullet
Note1900He also considered a very good athlete, excelling at running, boxing & cricket. During his time in the army he became the Army heavyweight boxing champion
