Obituary-shared
Obituary of Nancy Jane Taylor Rigg:On October 9, 1909, the Heavenly Father sent his Angel of Death ot summon our beloved mother from suffering and sorrows to her heavenly rest.
Nancy Taylor was born in Harrison County, Kentucky, January 8th, 1833. She came to Missouri with her mother, and brothers and sister and settled in Buchanan County in 1847. She was married to R. C. Rigg on October 20, 1850. She professed faith in Christ and united with the Hebron Baptist Church in February, 1858. Later she moved her membership to Plattsburg, where it remained until her Heavenly Father called her home.
Weep not dear ones as those who have no hope, but rejoice that her name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
We desire to thank our friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and death of our wife and mother.

Correspondence
Interesting!I really know very little to nothing about their courtship or marriage... only the rumors!
Grandpa was married to Amanda, who was barren and not able to have children. Grandma was a sixteen-year old young girl who came to their home, lived there I think, and was to teach family or work, and "teach" children is what I was told. Uncle Bob was mostly the source... I think!
Anyway, something happened... like they became involved. Grandpa was some sixteen or so years older, maybe not quite that much difference, but anyway, my Grandmother became pregnant, and it is possible that the "divorce" was or was not official or over.
Anyway, from what I was told, they got married, and Aunt Jessie was born a few months later... maybe a tad early, but who really has anything "bad" to say about that if it did happen that way. And, it apparently did!
Aunt Jessie and Uncle Glen Bosley did the same thing... as have others in the family!
Anyway, Jack and Uncle Bob both related a similar history... Amanda could not have children, Grandma had come to live and "teach" reading and writing to family and/or at a school, and things just happened! Not too unusual then or now!
I don't know for sure when they went to Cripple Creek... early 1890's or so?
Grandma was born in 1870... always talked about that... died in 1950 when I was at Casper College.
She was one great woman... the matriarch of the family... super smart, very very intelligent, and just a wonderful granmother... taught me so much... from farming to hunting to cards to "surviving" to horses and horse races and on and on... I spent a lot of time with her when growing up... stayed with her many times... ranch, her home, etc.! Just great memories!
She knew cattle and livestock... how to farm, work, chickens, pigs, how to butcher, shoot, just everything! She said they had one Indian scare when she was young, but nothing happened! She was a crack shot... probably as good as the famous female gun slingers and all!
Anyway, that is a start... more to come...
All is well... Jeff here and leaving for LAS at noon... at Grand Mesa... hiked Crag Crest... still very scary... even when walking!
Love to all...

So when you have a few minutes --
Can you write any stories you heard of how your grandparents (John and
Jessie Mary Rigg) met -- and anything about their parents and early life?
I have some poetry written by her, and it is quite good.
Just wondering how they got together since they are from different states,
and they were married in Denver.
