Letter from Kathy Nell Obrecht (descendant of Hermanus) states research of her mother, Helen Dahr Nell, found Hermanus born April 9, 1772 in Siegen, Germany died August 13, 1794 in Fincastle, VA and married Feb. 28, 1743 to Catherine Meinhardt, although Helen Nell's research encountered another name -- Monette. Helen gives Catherine's birthdate as June 10, 1772 in Sin Seigen and death as 1801. Unfortunately the only source given is the will, and this information is not in the will.

Hermanus came to the U.S. on 20 September 1743, landing in Philadelphia, PA, aboard the ship LYDIA. He first settled in York County, PA. He was a member of the Conestoga Baptist Church by 24 April 1748. He was Supervisor of Highways in 1761 and was Oversee of the Poor in 1778. He owned a sawmill and a grist mill in Barwick Township, PA. Hermanus and his wife moved to Botetourt County, Virginia, about 1791. He married Agnesa Catrina (Catherine) MEINHARDT about 1748.Endnotes
