by Alice Ann O'Bryant:
The last name Bruch is also found as Brough, Brouch, Brugh. The name eventually was changed to Brugh.
Hermanus was born in Germany in 1792. He came to America on the ship "Lydia" which landed at Philadelphia September 20th, 1743.
Ships lists at the point of entry disclose that Hermanus Bruch (now spelled Brugh) was 22 when he landed on the ship Lydia bound from Rotterdam with a stopover at Cowes England. Excerpt from a family history written by Mrs. William Floyd Robinson (Vista C. Brugh) for a family reunion pamphlet July 28, 1949.
His first land grant was in York county Pennsylvania in 1753. He also recieved one in 1765.
He was a member of the Conestoga Baptist Church in 1748. In 1770 he and his wife were members of the Conewaga Congregation, 14 miles from York Pennsylvania. [source "History of the German Baptist Bretheran" by Dr. M.G. Brumbaugh.page310&320]
He was Supervisor of Highways in 1761, Constable in 1764 Overseer of the Poor in 1778. [The authority for this service is "The Docket of the Court of the General Quarters Sessions of the Peace of York Co." In the office of the Clerk of the Courts for the year of 1778.]
Hermanus moved to Botetourt County, Virginia just after the Revolutionary War. (Probably with sons Daniel and John.)
Probably buried in the Old Simmons Graveyard near Mill Creek Church.

---------------
by O'Bryant:
Letter from Kathy Nell Obrecht (descendant of Hermanus) states research of her mother, Helen Dahr Nell, found Hermanus born April 9, 1772 in Siegen, Germany died August 13, 1794 in Fincastle, VA and married Feb. 28, 1743 to Catherine Meinhardt, although Helen Nell's research encountered another name -- Monette. Helen gives Catherine's birthdate as June 10, 1772 in Sin Seigen and death as 1801. Unfortunately the only source given is the will, and this information is not in the will.
