Henry ETTER Jr.

(1767 - April 1825)

Henry migrated from Dauphin County, PA to Franklin County, PA in 1792. (age 25) and bought a farm at Guilford Springs. His wife is buried with him at that place, she dying within four days of his death. (Biographical Annals of Franklin Co., PA,p. 555)


The place Henry settled was the site of an old fort which had been used in times of Indian warfare for the protection of the whites. (History of Franklin Co. PA, p. 875)

Henry was drafted for the "War of 1812". He refused to serve. Because he owned large flourishing farms he was granted permission to stay home and raise provisions for the army. Henry Jr. married a girl that worked for the family. They had 12 children. He spoke German and English. Henry Jr. was burried on his farm in Pennsylvania near Chambersburg by the old school house. He was a well to do man, very good in financial matter, he never wanted for money nor did he ever borrow any money, always paid his own way. He as hard on his children but they respected him and worked on the farms.
