Michael E. HARGLEROAD

(18 November 1824 - 22 August 1904)

Michael E. Hargleroad, his wife Elizabeth Brough Hargleroad, and 10 of their 13 children left their native Pennsylvania in 1874. two children had died in infancy. their eldest daughter Mary, was already married when the family left. They moved first to Huntington, Indiana. The following year the family moved to Adams County, Nebraska, arriving in hastings in April 1875. shortly after, they homesteaded in the southwest part of the county in Cottonwood Township, about one mile from the present town of Holstein. the Hargleroad farm consisted of about 320 acres.

Death

Hastings Tribune, 26 Aug 1904:
M.E. Hargleroad, who was taken to the asylum about a month ago, died suddenly last Tuesday morning. The remains were brought to Holstein and interred in the cemetery in the east part of town.
