William Brownlee Gabby HARGLEROAD
(8 February 1863 - 19 February 1945)
William and Maggie first homesteaded near Sterling, CO where a son was born and died on December 18, 1884. Later they moved to York County, NE. In march 1891, they moved to Holstein. There William served as president of the First State Bank of Holstein. He built a big brick building in 1915 which housed the post office, drug store, movie theater and upstairs a dance hall. He was county commissioner and practically ran the telephone company. William was also a member of the school board. Maggie was active in the Evangelical Church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge. in 1926, William and Maggie moved to Hastings where he formed a company to produce and sell the hargleroad Road Maintainer. This was a piece of equipment designed to smooth and give the proper grade to dirt or gravel roads. William and Magdalene were married for over 60 years.

Death of W.B. Hargleroad
Pioneer Adams County Resident Succumbs Five Weeks After Wife's Death
William B. Hargleroad, 82, died at 3:35 p.m. Monday at his home, 503 North Elm, just five weeks after the death of his wife. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Holstein Evangelical Church. the Rev. Mr. Marchand will officiate. The body is at the Livingston Funeral Home.
To County in 1875:
Born February 8, 1863, near Chambersburg, PA, Mr. Hargleroad came to Adams county with his parents in 1875. He was the eighth child in a family of 13, and was the last to survive.
He was married at Juniata February 28, 1884, to Magdalena Blank, and with the exception of a few years they were lifelong residents of Adams county. For 38 years they lived at Holstein, where Mr. Hargleroad was in the banking business. He served on town school and township boards and was a county supervisor for eight years.
Mr. and Mrs. Hargleroad moved to Hastings in 1926 where Mr. hargleroad headed his own road maintainer firm. In recent years his chief business interest had been in real estate.
Survivors:
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Louis Nelson of Ong, Mrs. J. P. Rigg of Grand Junction, Colo.; Miss Jewell Hargleroad of Omaha, Mrs. John r. Lacko of Hastings: and three sons, W. B. Hargelroad Jr., of Omaha, James C. Hargleroad of Milwaukee, Wis., who has just received a medical discharge from the army, and Ralph W. hargleroad of Los Angeles, Calif.
There are also 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The three eldest grandsons are in the armed forces overseas. They are Corporal W.B. Hargleroad III in the Signal Corps, Private (1c) James P. Rigg Jr., in the infantry, and Private John B. Rigg of the Marines, all now in the south Pacific.

Funeral services for William B. Hargleroad were held Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical Church at Holstein, conducted by the Rev. Edward F. Marchand. Music was furnished by Mrs. M. G. Braun and Mrs. Eva Rainforth, accompanied by Mrs. M. M. Fink. Burial was in the Holstein cemetery and pallbearers were Gus Granstrom, John Shaw, Perle Koch, Jake W. Essinger, herbert Nelson and Robert Huckfeldt. Mr. Hargleroad died monday afternoon at his home, 503 North Elm.
