Services Held For Brookhaven Worker After Fatal Hurts
BROOKHAVEN, Sept. 6—Funeral services were held for Albert Ernest Furr, 48, who died as a result of head injuries allegedly received when he was struck by J. S. Hovas, 57-year-old Brookhaven plant superintendent, in an argument. Furr, suffering from a brain concussion, underwent an operation in an attempt to remove blood clots from his brain which threatened his life. A New Orleans brain specialist was called for the operation. Furr was a member of the Baptist church at Wesson, where he was born and reared, and was also a member of the Masonic lodge at Gloster. He has been employed in Brookhaven off and on for the past eight years and had been serving as night watchman for several months. He had been dismissed at the time of the accident. Funeral services were conducted from the Wesson Baptist church with the Rev. Mark Lowrey officiating. Interment was made in the Wesson cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alice Scarborough Furr: two daughters, Mrs. Harry Sterling of Amite, La., and Miss Ernestine Furr of Wesson; a son, Chilton Furr of Wesson; his mother, Mrs. J. M. Furr of Wesson; four sisters, Mrs. C. W. Newton of Wisner, La.; Mrs. L. G. Hoggatt of Franklinton, Mrs. M. C. Holloway of Bogalusa, and Mrs. L. J. Slay of Tehula, and two brothers, L. A. Furr of Tylertown and O. L. Furr of Mobile. Hovas is being held without specific charge in the county jail awaiting action by the grand jury which is now in session.
