Death

NEWTON - Gilbretta Furr McGee, 84, died Thursday, April 26, 2007, after an extended illness. She was born April 29, 1922, in Newton, (Catawba County) the eldest of six children, to Robert and Edna Furr. She graduated from Newton High School and attended Catawba College. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Opera Guild of Charlotte, Friends of the Mint, Charlotte chapter of Ikebana International and Charity League of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold Cline McGee. Survivors include her loving children, Harold Cline McGee Jr. and wife, Ann, Debra DeLong and husband, Randy, and Robert P. McGee and wife, Joyce; four grandchildren, Brian and John DeLong and Brittany and Heather McGee; three brothers; one sister; and numerous friends. An informal visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight, Saturday, April 28, at Gib's home. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte. The family will receive friends at a reception honoring her memory immediately after the service. A private interment with immediate family members will follow the reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Columbarium Fund, 4519 Providence Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28226. Published in the Hickory Daily Record on 4/28/2007.
