Death
Rev. Grady Cole Ghent, age 78, of 1486 Converse Street, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born October 17, 1930 in Lancaster County, the son of the late James William "Bill" Ghent and Mabel Pardue Ghent and was the husband of Peggy Furr Ghent. Rev. Ghent, a retired minister had served at Catawba Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church of Lancaster, Bethel Baptist Church – Clover, SC, Morningside Baptist Church – Union, SC, Pine Grove Baptist Church of Clover, SC and Elgin Baptist Church of Lancaster. Rev. Ghent was a Lifetime Mason with Jackson Lodge #53, a Shriner with Hejaz Temple, a member of the American Legion, Catawba Baptist Church and served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Rev. Ghent is survived by his wife, Peggy Furr Ghent of the home, 2 sons, Gene Ghent and his wife Carol and William D. "Butch" Ghent and his wife Deborah both of Lancaster, and grandson raised in the home, Ja' Cook and his wife Tracey of Orangeburg, SC., a daughter, Cheryl G. McAbee and her husband Tommy of Union, SC, 2 brothers, James Gheant and Cecil Ghent both of Lancaster, 7 grandchildren; Mica Jones, Daniel Ghent, Thom McAbee, Cole McAbee, Alicia Terry, Kimberly Waits, and Billy Cole Ghent, and 6 great grandchildren, Sebastian Jones, Brandon Ghent, Colby Waits, Anthony Terry, Marc-Anthony Cook and Connor Cook. Rev. Ghent was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Gheant. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Rev. Ghent will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Catawba Baptist Church by Rev. Gene Ghent, Rev. Ja' Cook and Rev. Bill Parker with burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. The Family of Rev. Ghent will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Catawba Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and suggest memorials be made to Catawba Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1144 Riverside Road, Lancaster SC 29720 or to The Gideon's International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.Endnotes
