Death
CONCORD - Mr. Coburn "Junior" Overton Barbee Jr., 52, and Mrs. Jacqueline "Jackie" Jean Harwell Barbee, 48, of 186 Buffalo Avenue, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 following a house fire. There will be a joint funeral 2 p.m. Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Parker and the Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home. The family headquarters will be at the home of Jack and Shelby Harwell, 603 Forrest Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Barbee who were married for 32 years, are survived by three daughters, Jennifer Lynn Shoe and husband, Timmy, of Concord, Kathy Jean Hill and husband, Joey, of Kannapolis and Christinia Marie Fink of Kannapolis and five grandchildren, Crystal Nichole Fink, Christopher Dale Fink, Sierra Necole Shoe, Pamela Jean Shoe and Madison Louise Hill. Their two year old boxer, "Jade" also perished during the house fire. Mr. Barbee was born Nov. 8, 1954 in Cabarrus County the son of the late Coburn Overton Barbee Sr. and the late Martha Louise Furr Barbee. He was a graduate of Central Cabarrus High School. In early life he was a welder at Cannon Mills Plant 1 and later worked for Innovative Transportation Services (ITS) of Charlotte as a trailer mechanic prior to becoming disabled. He enjoyed working on anything mechanical and being outdoors. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. In addition to his children and grandchildren survivors include one brother, Walter Subrone Barbee Sr. and wife, Cindy, of Concord; one sister, Amelia Darlene Corriher and husband, Huitt of China Grove; grandmother, Carrie Barbee of Concord. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arey Barbee, Walter Fifus Furr and Mamie Louise Furr. Mrs. Barbee was born Oct. 15, 1958 in Cabarrus County the daughter of Jack Donald Harwell and Shelby Jean Christy Harwell of Kannapolis. She had been employed by Shogren Hosiery Mill for 12 years and was a homemaker at the time of her death. Her five grandchildren were her pride and joy. In addition to her children and grandchildren survivors include two brothers, Scott Harwell of Rockwell and Jeff Harwell of China Grove; two aunts and three uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vadar Monrow Honeycutt Christy and Van Buren Christy. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
