Death

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church, Kannapolis, with the Rev. Bennie Burgess officiating. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. DeMarcus was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Cornelius DeMarcus and the late Ada Lewis DeMarcus. Mr. DeMarcus was a native of Cabarrus County and a graduate of Odell High School. In earlier life he was employed with the N.C. Dept. of Transportation. Later he worked at Cannon Mills Plant 1, Bleachery Dept., until his retirement. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on cars and woodworking in his shop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Furr DeMarcus, who died Feb. 6, 1977, and a son, Norman Eugene DeMarcus, who died Feb. 14, 2005. Survivors include his sons, Elvin DeMarcus of the home and Melvin DeMarcus of Kannapolis; daughter, Cathy DeMarcus of Kannapolis; granddaughters, Laurajean DeMarcus and Laura Cogdill, both of Kannapolis. The family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 220 Heinze Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28081. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. DeMarcus.
