Death
Laura Furr Merritt, 93, of Charlotte passed away on July 5, 2011. She was born in Cabarrus County on October 22, 1917 to Albert and Ada Drye Furr, and the last survivor of their 11 children. Laura enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking, but most of all she loved being a mother. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Robert Merritt and son, Jack Bernard Merritt. Laura is survived by her children, Roger (Alwilda) Merritt of Montclair, VA; Kay (Clarence) Bradley of Rock Hill, SC; Marilyn (Vernon) Hill of Mt. Pleasant, NC and Laura Ann Baird of Gastonia, NC. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her loving caregiver of 4 years, Rina Lizardo. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Pineville Church of the Nazarene, 8641 Pineville-Matthews Rd., Charlotte, 28226 followed by an 11:00 am funeral service. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
