Death
ALBEMARLE -- The Rev. Mahlon Lee Furr, 83, 310 Northeast Connector, died Friday (Nov. 12, 2004) at his home. Born Aug. 14, 1921, in Aberdeen, the Rev. Furr was a son of the late Tilman Lee Furr and Minnie Furr Hinson. During World War II, he served in the European Theatre with the U.S. Air Force. He received pastoral training with Fruitland Bible Institute and Wingate College. Over a 50 year period, he pastored nine churches and served as interim pastor for many others. He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church and the Sheriff's Association of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by first wife Nellie Arlene Hathcock Furr. Survivors include wife Caroline Delores Marx Furr; sons Jerry Furr, Winston-Salem, Kenneth Furr, Lancaster, S.C.; daughter Naomi Poole, Salisbury; stepsons Joseph Wilson, of the home, and John Wilson, Norfolk, Va.; stepdaughters Cheryl Driggers, Florence, S.C., Jolynn Bradshaw, Hartsville, S.C., and Lisa Sheets, Salisbury; brother J.D. Furr, Richfield; sisters Ramelle Norton and Alma Jane Harwood, both of Albemarle; half sister Eltis Morgan, High Point; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Centerview Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Vaughn, the Rev. Claudie Harrison and the Rev. Ray Moon. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30. The Rev. Mahlon Lee Furr, 83, of 310 Northeast Connector, Albemarle, died at 3 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at his home. His funeral was at 4 p.m. Sunday in Centerview Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Revs. Ronnie Vaughn, Claude Harrison and Ray Moon officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery in Albemarle with military rites by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12 Ritual Team. Born Aug. 14, 1921 in Aberdeen (Moore County), he was a son of the late Tillman Lee Furr and Minnie Furr Hinson. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. Furr of Richfield; Ramelle Norton and Alma Jane Harwood, both of Albemarle; and a half-sister, Eltis Morgan of High Point; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
