Death
David Levi Furr, Jr. 'D.L.' Mr. Furr, age 95, of Union County, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehab Center after several years of declining health. Born January 20, 1914 in Union County, he was the son of the late David Levi Furr, Sr. and Lutisha Helms Furr. D.L. and his wife of 72 years, Pauline Mullis Furr, made their home on Idlewild Road in Charlotte for 45 years then retired to his boyhood home site on Indian Trail-Fairview Road where he continued the Furr legacy of a lovely home in a country setting. For many years, Mr. Furr worked at Cole Mfg Company and later as tool and dye supervisor at Delmar Studios Inc., retiring at age 65. He was always a 'part-time' farmer, enjoying his red tractor and admirable gardens. Mr. Furr was a life long member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church, an active deacon for many years and faithfully supported the church. Mr. Furr is survived by his devoted wife, Pauline Mullis Furr; five children and their spouses, Linda Furr Hargett and husband, Larry, of Summerville, SC, Carolyn Furr Griffin and husband, Homer, of Mint Hill, David L. Furr, III and wife, Sara, of Indian Trail, Larry H. Furr and wife, Irene of Mint Hill and Joy Furr Purser and husband, Dwight, of Matthews; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Furr was preceded in death by his four siblings, Sanford Furr, Rena Belk, Hazel Warwick and Myrtle Pressley Boatwright. The service to celebrate the life of David Levi Furr, Jr. will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Wilson Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Grant Hoffman and Reverend Joe Mullis officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Lake Park Nursing and Rehab Center for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 'With Love From Jesus', a local Christian ministry, 5226 Indian Trail-Fairview Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079.
