James Newton “Sonny” Furr, Jr, 82, of Jackson, MS, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021, at his home. Sonny was born on October 28, 1938, in Grenada, MS. He was the only child of James N. and Christine Prescott Furr. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson. He graduated from Byram High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Bobbye, in 1960. He was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church. After high school, he worked for Knox Glass before attending sheet metal trade school where he became a Journeyman. He started working for Southern Roofing & Sheet Metal before joining Observa Dome Laboratories where he traveled throughout the U.S. installing observatories for many years. He retired from The Pooley Company after working in the trade for 50 years. He loved motorcycles, NASCAR & traveling. After retiring, he was given an amazing opportunity to tour the Limited-Edition Peavey Orange County Chopper custom guitar motorcycle. He and Bobbye enjoyed showing the Peavey motorcycle in the U.S. and Canada for two years. In life, his tall stature made a presence, while never meeting a stranger. He had a huge, kind heart and would help you in any way he could. He will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jimmy Furr and his grandson, Jamie Furr. He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Bobbye Ruth Robinson Furr, his daughter, Lisa (Eddie) Boleware of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Blake Edwin Boleware, Amanda Christine Boleware and Josh Furr; great-grandson, Ryder Furr.
