Mr. Edward James Furr, 62, 2505 Marlboro Ave., died Friday. He was born in Louisiana, but had lived in Orlando for years. He was a warehouseman for a local trucking firm and a veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Irene Furr, Orlando; brothers, Fay J. Furr, Phoenix, Ariz., Paul Furr, Rio Grande, Tex. Details of the action for which Pfc. EDWARD JAMES FURR, 34, son of Mrs. A. M. Furr, 2609 Dupont street, received the silver star in North Africa were revealed Wednesday by the war department. Private Furr, who is formerly from Zwolle, volunteered to join a group detailed to destroy facilities which might be of use to the enemy. It was a dangerous mission, characterized by continuous and accurate enemy fire. He saw action in Finland at the outbreak of the war and later served in the Canadian ski troops. He is a guard now for German prisoners and has been overseas, for 19 months.The Shreveport Journal, Shreveport, Louisiana, December 23, 1943
