Death

MURPHY - Dewey N. Furr, plant superintendent of Commonwealth Lumber Co., died Tuesday night, Nov. 26, in an Atlanta hospital after an illness of four months. He was a native of Zwolle, La., a member of Zwolle Lodge, 302, AF & AM and of First Baptist Church of Shreveport, La. He moved to Murphy fifteen years ago as plant superintendent of the lumber company. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. G. Mobley Furr; a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Waggoner of Murphy; a son, D. N. Furr, Jr., of Atlanta; the mother, Mrs. Annie Mae Laurent Furr of Orlando, Fla.; three brothers, Paul of Alice, Texas, Fay of Phoenix, Ariz., and Edward J. of Orlando, Fla., and five grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Murphy First Baptist Church. The Rev. William J. Thompson officiated and burial was In Sunset Cemetery. Masons conducted graveside rites. Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
