Death

Aubrey Carl (AC) Barbee, 90, passed away on Monday, April 23, at his home in Huntersville after a long period of declining health. He was the son of the late Wren L and Essie Furr Barbee of Charlotte, and was preceded in death by brothers, Ronder W Barbee, Winfred T (Bob) Barbee, and sister, Velma Barbee Rosford. He is survived by his wife, Josie; his children, David Edmund Barbee (Becky) of Asheville, Frank Stephen Barbee (Sabrina) of Charlotte, Timothy Kiker Barbee Lynne) of Monroe, six grandchildren, Andrew (Katie), Stephen (Sarah), Jennifer (Dan), Carolyn, Seth (Miah) and Whitney, and eight great-grandchildren. AC graduated from Charlotte Technical High School and attended Charlotte College. He served in the US Maritime Service and in the US Navy in the Pacific area. He married his wife, Josie Kiker, in 1950 and later founded AC Electric Contracting Company, where he served as President for 29 years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Master Electrical Contractors Association of North Carolina, serving in various positions in the Association, including that of Chaplain. He was the recipient of the Association's Lifetime Membership Award. He also worked with the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years with five different troops in various positions. He served as Woodbadge Assistant Course Director and in 1990 he was awarded the degree of Master of Commissioner of Science by the Boy Scouts of America. As a young boy, AC received Christ as his Savior at a cottage prayer meeting. He taught Sunday School for many years and served his church in many capacities, including that of Elder and a one-year term as Moderator of his Presbytery. In his own words, AC said: "My greatest joy in life is experiencing God being in charge and his Holy Spirit guiding my life." He participated in several mission trips including the Hurricane Floyd area, Atlanta, and the Cherokee Indian Reservation. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, at 10:00 am at the Huntersville ARP Church, 200 North Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Gardens in Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship, PO Box 847, Bristol, TN 37621. James Funeral Home in Huntersville is serving the family.
